Texcoco, Estado de México, May 12, 2011. Continental Tire the Americas, LLC ("Continental") today opened its seventh tire retread plant for commercial trucks and passenger busses, in order to provide new products with the same benefits of a new tire, but at a lower cost.
With the installation of this plant, Continental's Commercial Vehicle Tire division is continuing its reach across Mexico with retread tire products that have the same technologies, tread designs and compounding as the new tire, generating a new approach to the tire's lifespan. Continental's ContiLifeCycle philosophy maximizes the potential lifetime of the tire, thus reducing total operating costs for commercial fleets without sacrificing the performance, comfort, fuel economy or quality of the product.
During the Texcoco plant opening, Continental reiterated the commitment with its customers to provide the highest quality and innovation in truck tires. Moreover, the company continues to generate direct and indirect jobs in Mexico, as well as operating under its values of social responsibility and environmental preservation. The reuse of truck tire casings in the ContiLifeCycle retreading process saves energy and raw materials in the manufacturing process, and reduces the amount of hazardous waste generated by scrap tires, the company said.
According to Paul Williams, executive vice president for Truck - the Americas, ContiTread has far exceeded the expectations of success set at the beginning of the project.
"Our operations in Mexico, such as the newest Texcoco plant, are our model to implement new ContiTread retreading plants in the United States, Canada and South America," Williams said.
The Texcoco plant and the six others currently operating in Mexico are now being supplied by the recently opened ContiLifeCycle flat tread manufacturing plant in Morelia, Mexico.
With annual sales of €26 billion for 2010, Continental is among the leading automotive suppliers worldwide. As a supplier of brake systems, systems and components for powertrains and chassis, instrumentation, infotainment solutions, vehicle electronics, tires and technical elastomers, Continental contributes to enhanced driving safety and global climate protection. Continental is also a competent partner in networked automobile communication. Continental currently employs approximately 150,000 in 46 countries.
